イントネーションの方が大切だったりするらしい。
「掘った芋いじるな」
これは明らかに日本語。
が、、、コレを外国人にいうと
時間を教えてくれちゃうんだよねコレが。
英語を勉強している人には有名すぎるハナシ。
これは実話らしいんだけど、田舎の芋畑での出来事らしい。
見知らぬ外国人がいもばたけでゴソゴソしてたら
持ち主がそう叫んだら、「It’s 5 o’clock」と答えたそうだ。
これはあちらの人には「What time is it now?」と伝わってしまうそうだ。
イントネーションが如何に大事かということがわかる典型的な例。
英会話カフェとかでもこれを意識している人は
いちばんネイティブになりきろうとしている感がある。
ということはイチバン上達していることと同意義なのではないかと。
